AI Robots Cannot Replace Human Physicians. Here’s Why.

AI fundamentally is based on data inputs, samplings of the internet and other sources. It gets the “answer” right based on all sampled answers given before.

There is no compassion embedded into AI, no empathy, no kindness—all things that human physicians can bring to the physician-patient interaction.

Check this situation out—this Kaiser Hospital interaction features a tele robot delivering end of life news to a patient and received negative press.

In the interaction, a doctor is speaking through a video screen robot and is not present in the room. “At some point the mask will not be enough,” he says. Although the video display of a human doctor was there, the robot delivery removed all personal human qualities of the interaction.

The best human physicians bring a special connection to the patient interaction. We can be the patient’s advocate and friend through toughest times in life. A robot? Not so much.
